In God We Trust v. Doing What We Like

Whom do you trust?
"Did you notice how the 'Do what you like.  Like what you do.' on our license plate frame covers up the 'In God We Trust' on our new license plates?"  I ask Darling Bride.

She replies that she did not.  Good.  I already know that I can pretend to be one thing while actually be another sometimes - just like everybody else - but I didn't want it to be so obvious.  This seems obvious - paying lip service (or license plate service?) to God while actually going my own way in life.

"I thought you were going to put the frame back on the camper," Darling Bride continues.  Yes, the frame originally was for our camper, but I moved it to the van last fall when the camper went into winter hibernation.

My reply, "That would involve another round of unbolting and rebolting license plates" convicted me that I not only can I be a hypocrite, but I can also be lazy.

We like Indiana Dunes State Park
During a quiet moment Sunday afternoon, the license plate frame got moved back home to our camper.

As far as anybody knows, we are a nice, normal suburban family.

Psalm 37:3-5 tells us,

Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.

When interpreting Psalm 37, understand that God is not beholden to give us whatever we desire, instead, we will a acquire the desire for Him above all things as we trust Him and do good.

Lord, please remove from me the desire of being seen by others one way and actually being another way. May I delight in you rather than do whatever I like without regard to trusting in you.  In Jesus's name, amen.

  1. I'm glad you switched the plates, but am sure it was an honest mistake! Oops!
