"Daddy, can I watch you connect the computer wires...?" he asked me once upon a time. Never mind that it is "may" instead of "can" or "cables" instead of wires, I've got a teachable moment where I'm showing my "little daddy" man stuff - how to connect a PC's keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, microphone, etc... It is nice to have a little boy around to show things to.
Little boys don't stay little for long.

Last week I paid this
little boy young man $7.00 to get my website header centered. If that weren't enough, in anticipation of his upcoming 14th birthday, the extended family and we pooled our resources and bought him a new Dell Inspiron laptop. By the end of the day, he had it set up to dual boot
Ubuntu with
Windows 7 faster than you can say "
Linux Distribution." Then he re-configured an old laptop he had been using with
Linux Mint.
If you don't know what it means to dual boot a computer, just ask your local 14 year old.

Oh, to have his life and be 14 again.
The laptop pushed the envelope as far as birthday budgets go, but hey, it is an investment in his career. 18 is only 4 short years away. Egad!
